31st Edition of the Riviera in Bloom - Riviera del Brenta

The thirty first edition of the Riviera in Bloom will be held in the enchanting settings of the Riviera del Brenta from September 12 - 14, 2008.

One of the most captivating historic-folklore events, it was instituted in 1977. Rowers in costume parade historic boats down the Brenta river past the magnificent Venetian mansions.

The event re-enacts the event in 1574 when Henry the Third, King of France, entered Venice from Padua following the entire Brenta river, parading before the Venetian nobles' mansions. The King received a warm welcome, with the crowds celebrating on the shores and the nobles observing the passage of the King from their lush gardens.

Riviera in Bloom has become a must for tourists and residents alike. The placid waters of the Brenta, the majestic historic mansions and lush gardens set the stage for hundreds of vessels, parade boats, "bissone" and "caorline" with over 1100 extras, rowers and musicians, all in costume.

The event starts at 9:30 Am at the Villa Foscarini-Rossi in Stra with the re-enactment of the meeting between the Duke and French King Henry the Third, ending at 5 PM at the Villa La Malcontenta. Each site along the rout will be decked-out for the celebration with shows, entertainment and food stands.
